The quote above has been one of my favorites for many years. It has become a motto of my personal life, that has held more significance in the last several years.

This road less traveled – what significance does it hold? Long before Robert Frost made this famous quote, we find our Lord speaking about the road less traveled in Matthew 7.

“Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” Matthew 7:14

We, as Christians, are called to travel this narrow path. We are called to be different, to be separate. This path is narrow – one that you may miss if you are not looking for it. It is like the paths when one goes hiking – you may miss the trail if you do not know what you are looking for. Narrow is the path that leads unto glory!

This narrow path is not promised to be easy – but we are promised to never be alone. He promises to walk with us each day! When the going get rough, He carries us. What a promise for the Christian believer.

Also in looking at the road less traveled in regards to my current phase of life – nursing school. A career that is always in need of employees to provide care to individuals at the lowest point of their lives. If I knew then what I know now, I am not sure that I could’ve applied to nursing school. No textbooks give an accurate account of this road less traveled. It is a road with a noble end – but just as the Lord carries us during difficult times, the same is true in nursing school.

Nursing school is a hard, daunting study – one that attempts to prepare the student for nursing outside of school. It is a task not taken lightly! Nursing school has had a way of shaping me!

Take the road less traveled today – the road that leads to life eternal. Call on the name of the Lord when the going gets tough! He has promised to never leave nor forsake us.
